"The Council made a written decision to conclude an agreement on withdrawal on behalf of the EU. This follows the vote of the European Parliament on January 29 and the signing of the agreement on the withdrawal of the EU and the UK on January 24," the statement said.

The agreement will enter into force on January 31, 2020 at midnight Central European Time. From now on, the UK will no longer be a member state of the EU and will be considered a third country.
